Meditation is defined as a steady flow of attention to one thing.
Who in this world has not ever, in their entire lifetime, had their attention on something and kept it there for some period of time? My guess is No One, including you.
So whether you have ever meditated or not, this definition should make it clear that you have always known how to meditate, though you may not have realized this until now.
If you are not already meditating, it is probably because you either can’t find the time or you think you don’t know how.
So we are going to start with the assumption that you are now free of the idea that you don’t know how to meditate, and that the only issue left is getting yourself to do it. So let’s do this:
-
Determine a special place, and a time period, that you could meditate for twenty minutes a day.
-
To make this even easier, let’s say that nothing and no one is going to give you a hard time if you miss a session or two here and there.
-
And even easier, you can start with ten minutes instead of twenty.
Now, what are you going to do in this ten minutes?
Start with just going there at that time and relaxing. Don’t even try to meditate. Just get there, sit there (or lie down) and relax.
-
Don’t try to get your mind to go blank.
-
Don’t try to keep your attention on one thing.
-
If your mind is active, just watch the show and relax.
-
If you don’t like the show, put your attention on this ten minute track of music (Celestial Mountain) from Durga Ma’s studio, and let the music do all the work for you.
